Added Peace of Mind with the PULSE Commercial Chain Hoist
When it comes to overhead commercial door operators, reliability is everything. Businesses and facilities depend on smooth uninterrupted performance even when the unexpected occurs. That is why the PULSE Chain Hoist option is such a valuable addition to the PULSE line of commercial door openers.
Most PULSE operators feature a standard integrated battery backup system that ensures operation during power interruptions. The optional PULSE Chain Hoist, available for the 200 and 300 Series, provides an extra layer of security allowing doors to be operated manually during extended power outages. The addition of a chain hoist also complies with architect specifications that do not account for battery backup.
The PULSE Chain Hoist is simple, intuitive and ready when needed, giving users confidence that their doors will remain functional in any situation.
Engaging and disengaging the chain hoist is straightforward, requiring only a quick pull of either of the two colour-coded cords. Pulling the red cord disengages the PULSE operator and activates the chain hoist. Pulling the red cord also disconnects power to the PULSE operator as an added safeguard should power return while the chain hoist is being used. Pulling the green cord re-engages the PULSE operator allowing for a resumption of normal operation.
The PULSE Chain Hoist is more than a convenience; it’s a safeguard that protects your facility’s commercial operations, eliminates downtime and ensures peace of mind.

PULSE 400: The Next Evolution in DC Direct-Drive Technology
iControls® is proud to introduce our new PULSE 400 Commercial Series, a powerful and versatile line of direct-drive operators engineered for demanding commercial environments. With universal input voltage compatibility, the 400 Series accepts 208V to 600V AC (1 phase or 3 phase) right out of the box, making it ready for global deployment.
Output RPM Control Program the RPM for the gearbox output of the open cycle and close cycle for constant door speeds that suit the installation. With its speed detecting encoder, the PULSE 400 accommodates for the input voltage and provides reliable speed control throughout the operation, even if the voltages should fluctuate.
Extraordinary Power 400 Series operators feature a high-performance 180V DC motor, horsepower-rated for demanding commercial and industrial applications. Models are available with either 1.5 HP, 2 HP, 2.5 HP or 3 HP motors.
The 400 Series is available in four unique configurations:
- PULSE 400HD: Features high gearbox ratios (60:1, 80:1 or 100:1) Ideal for heavy-duty applications such as large springless folding, sectional or rolling steel doors.
- PULSE 400HS: Provides low gearbox ratios (7.5:1, 10:1, 15:1 or 20:1) built for high-speed springless fabric doors.
- PULSE 400RD: Includes gearbox ratios (30:1, 40:1 or 50:1) designed for springless rubber doors.
- PULSE 400BL: Offers moderate gearbox ratios (40:1, 50:1 or 60:1) designed for large balanced rolling steel or sectional overhead doors.
Contact the iControls team so we can recommend the ideal motor and gearbox configuration for your specific application.
Smart Features and Easy Setup Like every commercial door opener in the PULSE lineup, the 400 is intuitive to program and quick to install. It includes soft-start and soft-stop functionality, reducing wear on both the door and the operator for smooth and quiet operation.

Balance Matters: Extend Door Life with iControls Built-In Diagnostic Tool
Sectional and rolling steel doors commonly use torsion springs to counterbalance the door’s weight. Over time, and with repeated use, the springs can relax and cause a door to become unbalanced. This imbalance may strain components, cause door drift and even lead to premature torsion spring failure.
PULSE operators (Series 100, 200 and 300) include a diagnostic feature to detect door imbalance. The Automatic Balance Check, accessible from the control panel menu, runs the door through a full cycle and displays the force required to open versus close the door.
A difference in these figures indicates the degree of imbalance. Adjusting the spring tension based on these results to get these numbers as close as possible will help restore proper balance without removing the operator or relying on guesswork. A balanced door will extend spring life and improve battery backup performance.

PULSE Intelligent Force Monitoring: Enhancing Commercial Overhead Door Safety
All commercial overhead doors on the market today include some form of safety monitoring. Typically, this means a reflective or thru-beam photo-eye to detect obstructions while the door is closing. PULSE operators offer more to enhance safety.
Yes, all iControls PULSE door operators come equipped with either a polarized photo-eye or a thru-beam, depending on model. These safety components are mandated by UL and provide a good first line of defense but may not effectively prevent every incident.
For increased safety, PULSE operators (Series 100, 200 and 300) feature built-in intelligent force monitoring. This system continuously monitors the door while it is in motion and detects any abnormal force.
When closing, if the door encounters resistance or hits an obstruction, the operator halts and reverses direction. Should the door be obstructed during opening (ie. due to ice buildup, door latch engagement, door jam) this safety feature will stop the door to prevent further possible damage. This responsive action helps reduce the risk of harm and equipment damage. Force monitoring sensitivity is field adjustable for both opening and closing cycles
Intelligent force monitoring adds a valuable layer of protection for commercial doors using PULSE door openers. To learn more about their many safety and performance features, visit our PULSE commercial operators page.
