PULSE Door Balance Check: keep your balanced door working optimally
PULSE Door Balance Check: keep your balanced door working optimally

Torsion springs are a vital component of any balanced sectional or rolling steel door system, helping counterbalance the weight of the door. A properly balanced door can typically be opened manually with minimal effort. Working together with the rest of the door system, the springs support smooth, consistent operation through every cycle.

Door springs operate under significant tension and are often the first component to wear out or fail. As springs age or fatigue, the door can become unbalanced. Common signs include difficulty opening the door manually or the door drifting out of position. When an electric door operator is used for daily operation, early balance issues can be harder to detect until failure is imminent or has already occurred.

PULSE DC direct-drive commercial door operators, from iControls®, monitor each cycle to keep your door running smoothly. PULSE 100, 200, 300, and 500 operators include a built-in Door Balance Check feature that allows users to regularly check whether the door is properly balanced.

Before installing a PULSE operator, an installer should ensure the door is properly balanced. If the door can be easily opened and closed by hand with little manual force, it is an indication that the door is balanced. Once confirmed, the PULSE operator can be installed.

The Door Balance Check feature is located within the operator’s standard settings. Once selected, the operator resets its encoder and completes a single cycle at the slow open and close speeds used for soft-start/soft-stop functionality.

The PULSE Check Door Balance feature analyzes the current required to open and close the door. The opening and closing values displayed represent the current draw. If the numbers are the same or within 10% of each other, the door is considered balanced. If the values differ significantly, the door is likely unbalanced. In this case, it is recommended to contact a qualified garage door dealer to rebalance the door or replace the springs if necessary.

Facility managers are encouraged to check this feature regularly to ensure the door system continues to operate at peak performance.

PULSE’s Door Balance Check is an effective way to extend the life of your door system. It helps reduce major maintenance costs and prevents downtime caused by broken or fatigued springs.

Added peace of mind with the PULSE commercial chain hoist
Added peace of mind with the PULSE commercial chain hoist

When it comes to overhead commercial door operators, reliability is everything. Businesses and facilities depend on smooth uninterrupted performance even when the unexpected occurs. That is why the PULSE Chain Hoist option is such a valuable addition to the PULSE line of commercial door openers.

Most PULSE operators feature a standard integrated battery backup system that ensures operation during power interruptions. The optional PULSE Chain Hoist, available for the 200 and 300 Series, provides an extra layer of security allowing doors to be operated manually during extended power outages. The addition of a chain hoist also complies with architect specifications that do not account for battery backup.

The PULSE Chain Hoist is simple, intuitive and ready when needed, giving users confidence that their doors will remain functional in any situation.

Engaging and disengaging the chain hoist is straightforward, requiring only a quick pull of either of the two colour-coded cords. Pulling the red cord disengages the PULSE operator and activates the chain hoist. Pulling the red cord also disconnects power to the PULSE operator as an added safeguard should power return while the chain hoist is being used. Pulling the green cord re-engages the PULSE operator allowing for a resumption of normal operation.

The PULSE Chain Hoist is more than a convenience; it’s a safeguard that protects your facility’s commercial operations, eliminates downtime and ensures peace of mind.

High-end garage doors deserve a high-end residential operator that is quiet, strong, safe and energy-efficient
High-end garage doors deserve a high-end residential operator that is quiet, strong, safe and energy-efficient

For homeowners who want to upgrade to a higher-quality garage door with premium materials, a more powerful, garage door operator makes sense. Upscale garage doors, whether they are made from aluminum and glass, have wood or composite overlays or multiple double-insulated windows, are significantly heavier than their budget counterparts. They are also commonly larger, adding to their weight.

Whereas standard garage door openers are made with ‘HP Equivalent’ motors that lack rated horsepower and can struggle to lift these doors consistently, the PULSE 200 operators have factory rated HP motors designed for power. The PULSE 200 is UL325 approved for residential applications that will lift your premium garage door with ease.

PULSE operators are made with high-powered, high-torque DC motors. They have a direct- drive jackshaft gearhead that slides directly onto the door’s horizontal shaft, eliminating the need for chains, sprockets or trolley rails. They are provided with a pre-wired motor cable. This means installation is hassle free and setup is quick. The result is a clean, clutter-free install that will still allow for ceiling access when the door is closed.

Thanks to its DC motor and lack of sprockets/chains the operator is almost completely silent – no motor noise or rattling chain and sprocket every time someone opens the garage door. And because the motor is powered by DC voltage, battery backup is easily integrated and is a standard feature on all PULSE 200 operators. No need to attempt lifting that heavy door by hand during a power outage.

With its cutting-edge technology, there are an array of settings that can optimize safe operation and performance. For enhanced safety, PULSE openers include intelligent force monitoring. Customize the sensitivity setting to your door installation to ensure it reverses without damaging whatever obstruction it might hit when closing. Selectable speed settings ensure your door opens and closes at safe controlled speeds that can help decrease energy loss. Soft start/soft stop functionality extends the lifespan of the garage door’s components – no sudden jerky movements when you open or close the door to ensure the long life of this premium investment.
