90V or 180V direct-drive DC motors: the better choice for your commercial door operator
90V or 180V direct-drive DC motors: the better choice for your commercial door operator

There are many advantages to choosing a DC operator for commercial and industrial applications. Improved strength, speed control, efficiency, and longevity are just a few of the benefits worth considering.

Most DC door operators on the market today rely on 24V motors. While adequate for light-duty use, they often fall short in demanding environments where performance, reliability and efficiency are essential.

90V and 180V DC motors are a major upgrade This is why PULSE operators from iControls are built with either a robust 90V (up to 1 HP) or 180V DC motor (up to 3 HP), offering a clear advantage in commercial settings.

Unlike many competing operators, PULSE motors are horsepower-rated, not “horsepower equivalent”. When you choose PULSE, you can be confident you’re getting the power that’s promised.

With 24V motors, achieving higher speed means sacrificing torque. And when higher torque is required, top speeds become limited. With PULSE motors, there’s no need to compromise, they deliver both high torque and high speed.

Built for performance and dependability Choosing a PULSE operator means investing in a system engineered for strength and durability. The advantages of direct-drive 90V or 180V DC motors are clear. PULSE operators are the smarter choice for those who value exceptional performance and long-term dependability.

PULSE CAD shop drawings now available
PULSE CAD shop drawings now available

iControls is pleased to announce that architectural shop drawings for our PULSE line of direct-drive DC commercial door operators are now available for download on our manuals page.

In today’s facility management environment, project teams expect accurate, accessible, and up-to-date technical information. For architects, engineers, contractors and door dealers working with the PULSE line of commercial door operators, having CAD shop drawings available online is more than a convenience. It is a practical advantage that improves coordination, reduces errors and accelerates project timelines.

Our PULSE shop drawings provide precise dimensions, mechanical configurations and component relationships. Drawings for most PULSE 100, 200 and 300 configurations can be found on each model’s product page or on the iControls support pages.

These shop drawings join a growing library of resources for PULSE operators. Additional materials include detailed data sheets, the latest installation guides, a commercial product configurator and our AI technical support assistant: Aura.

iControls Automatic Door Balance Check
Balance matters: extend door life with iControls built-in diagnostic tool

Sectional and rolling steel doors commonly use torsion springs to counterbalance the door’s weight. Over time, and with repeated use, the springs can relax and cause a door to become unbalanced. This imbalance may strain components, cause door drift and even lead to premature torsion spring failure.

PULSE operators (Series 100, 200 and 300) include a diagnostic feature to detect door imbalance. The Automatic Balance Check, accessible from the control panel menu, runs the door through a full cycle and displays the force required to open versus close the door.

A difference in these figures indicates the degree of imbalance. Adjusting the spring tension based on these results to get these numbers as close as possible will help restore proper balance without removing the operator or relying on guesswork. A balanced door will extend spring life and improve battery backup performance.
